A couple of backgrounds

Splashed some paint around. Started off with watercolour paper with a light coating of gesso. This stops the paper getting too wet and floppy. The used some Brusho paints. I think I gave you some in a circular kit some time ago.
For one background I spritzed the paper first and then added watery paint and tipped the page to let it run.
For the other one I out the paint on the dry page and then spritzed it so you get lots of speckles. I though of doing some stamping on top.

This blog is a space to bring together different ways of taking that first step; using someone else's energy as inspiration (thanks, Mum!), art prompts to get the creative juices flowing, and sharing and swapping results for feedback and further ideas.

So, I have my envelope of art prompts, and the first one out of the bag is;

Actually a really good place to start, and gives me the chance to dig through one of my fabulous Xmas presents: 'the cloth, paper, scissors book'. There are so many ideas in here that I want to try out, although I suspect that Oman's art supply shops may limit me for the time being (not sure I'll find Translucent Liquid Sculpey or Acrylic Molding Paste, even if I knew what they were!). Still, working with what I have will just force me to experiment even more.

So, rather than waiting to get all the recommended materials (yet another reason to procrastinate!), I have decided to try out a variation of one of the suggestions with similar materials already in my art boxes. Jacqueline Sullivan suggests some mixed-media watercolour techniques that seem doable with what I have at home and also involve a couple of things that Oman has in spades - salt and sand. Art using the world around me beckons ...
